Hurt and Promises

When I was writing my posts on infertility, there was something I wanted to incorporate and couldn’t figure out quite how.

As I said, the time that we spent dealing with PCOS and its insanity felt like forever to me. When I found out my cousin Tricia was pregnant (with her first baby, Isaac), I had a little bit of a meltdown.

My cousins Amanda, Trevor, and I had always been very close. My extended family on that side is closer than most; we spent a week every summer camping together, Thanksgiving in cabins at Hueston Woods, and our family was visited in Virginia more times than I could count. When we were in Ohio, Amanda and I had a multitude of sleepovers, sometimes allowing Trevor to hang around, too. We were all within 11 months of age; we got married in a span of 8 months in 2003-2004. (Trevor actually got married two weeks after we did!)

So by the time I found out Tricia was pregnant, I already knew Amanda and Trevor’s wife, Julie, were expecting. It broke my heart that I wouldn’t share the experience with all of them.

The few weeks after finding out about Tricia were the worst of my journey. I was on a high dose of Metformin, which made me insanely sick all the time. Some things had happened with our class at church, causing us to merge back together with another class, which was just a little tumultuous. After finishing a project at work I was very involved in, it was back to routine. Things were just off.

Doing verifications at work one day, I typed in a Scripture wrong. This is what came up:

“He settles the barren woman in her home as the happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.” –Psalm 113:9

God spoke to me through a typo. I knew He had not forgotten about me.

What I didn’t know was there was already a tiny child nesting in my belly.

Today, I’m excited to share with you that this once-barren woman will be settled in her home as the happy mother of CHILDREN, not just a child.

Praise the LORD! We are due right at Christmas.

Oh I am just so excited for you!!! I know what you were going through as I was on that same journey. My SIL was getting pregnant every 18m and I was still trying to conceive. It was difficult. But with the help of a RE we conceived and now he is 2. Once again we tried for another with 5 IUI's unsuccessful while my SIL was once AGAIN pregnant, now with her 5th. We called it quits and were content with what God had given us. 2 months later we found out we were expecting. I am due in 13 weeks with a little girl. We can plan and plan but it doesn't mean a thing till God is ready. His timing is Oh so much better than ours. Congratulations!

Congratulations! I remember my days of thinking that "getting pregnant" was never going to happen to me. I envied everyone else's belly bulge and wondered why God wasn't blessing me with my heart's desire.

It was only when I surrendered to His will and His timing that I became pregnant with my first child.

He knows exactly what we need when we need it. And the growth that takes place while we wait allows us to help someone else along the journey.
